Sr. Elizabeth Szilvasi

Sr. Elizabeth Szilvasi, MPF, died peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, at St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ.  She was 86.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 25, beginning at 1:00 p.m., in St. Lucy Chapel, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 p.m. After the Liturgy, interment will take place at Ave Maria Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown, NJ.

Born in Ellwood City, PA, Sr. Elizabeth entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1953.   She received the habit in 1954, and made her religious profession in 1957.

Sr. Elizabeth studied Elementary Education, earning a BS degree from Mount St. Joseph College in Wakefield, RI, and a MS degree from University of Scranton, Scranton, PA.

In her 69 years of religious life, Sr. Elizabeth faithfully ministered as a classroom teacher and principal in the (arch)dioceses of Albany, Cleveland, Hartford, Newark, Ogdensburg, Providence, and Trenton.  In 2022, due to declining health, Sr. Elizabeth retired to St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ.

Sr. Elizabeth was one of five children.  She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Elizabeth (Bodnar) Szilvasi, brothers: George and Andrew Szilvasi, and one sister Helen Grinnen. She is survived her sister Mary Veres, and a large and loving extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sr. Elizabeth may be made to the Religious Teachers Filippini, c/o Sister Patricia Pompa, MPF, Villa Walsh, 455 Western Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960.

The Funeral Arrangements for Sister Elizabeth are as follows:

Thursday, January 25, 2024 in St. Lucy Chapel
1:00 p.m. – Blessing of the Body followed by the Rosary.
3:00 p.m. – Mass of Christian Burial followed by interment at Ave Maria cemetery.
